Guide to Selecting Outdoor Kitchen Doors and Drawers
If
you’re building a BBQ grill island, including outdoor kitchen doors and drawers,
the first thing to check is that they can stand up to any weather. There is a huge variety of weatherproof
cabinets in a variety styles and features, and now offered in a few different
materials. Here are a few tips to help you choose the best outdoor cabinets.
Choose Materials that are Weatherproof
In
the past, stainless steel was the only option for outdoor kitchen doors and drawers.
Today you can also choose marine-grade polymer or solid teak wood. If you don’t mind the fact that they’re
plastic, polymer outdoor cabinets are the most weather resistant. Solid teak outdoor kitchen doors and drawers are
another great option. Teak is the only
wood that can withstand any weather, and is also resistant mold, mildew and
insects. Teak is also more durable and
requires less maintenance than stainless steel.
Don’t Forget the Cabinet Hardware
Make
sure that your cabinet hardware is also weatherproof. Stainless steel outdoor
kitchen doors and drawers all include either pulls, or stainless or chrome
handles which will corrode over time. Pacific Teak Millworks includes stainless
handles, but the outdoor
kitchen doors and drawers are not pre-drilled so you can choose your own
options such as bronze.
